Understanding immune system and its functions
In fact, both physical and mental aspects contribute to keeping the immune system strong or weak.
The major functions of immune system are:
a) Combating the pathogens: These pathogens are bacteria, viruses and other contiguous organic elements that may come in contact with our body through our nostrils, ears, mouth and skin. That usually happens without our knowledge and makes us sick.
b) Producing antibodies: Such substances produced by the plasma cells to fight the antigens entering the body.
c) Managing production of cells: Immune system contributes in meeting the deficiency of cells, revitalizing and regenerating cells.
Under what conditions does the immune system become weak?
1) Aging : It is the primary factor which weakens the immune system. This is the reason when elderly people suffer from different chronic and life threatening conditions which are diabetes and cancer.
2) Genetic background : In many autoimmune cases like anemia, bone disease, blood sugar and cardiovascular disorders, many do suffer due to inheritance from family members or acquired by birth.
3) Poor diet: Increasing interest and dependence on fast food items or food cooked in unhygienic conditions usually increase the chance of stomach infections and make them suffer from heartburn, gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome and poor intestinal conditions.
4) Alcoholism and smoking: Dependence on these substances destroys the body’s digestive metabolism and weakens the respiratory system also. These substances act as a slow poison to your immune system and be the cause of your death.
5) Coming in contact with allergy triggering substances: It may be an unclean environment, bites of insects and animals.
How to keep the immune system strongly defensive against all types of life threatening issues ?
To keep immune system strong and active, it is necessary to understand the key immune system parts and these are:
a) Bone marrow
b) Antibodies
c) Spleen
d) Lymphatic system
e) Spleen.
In order to have a healthy body and mind for a long time, you must bring changes in your diet and lifestyle. Adopting Ayurvedic way of life is the key to healthy life and this is how you can actually do by :
a) Bringing changes in your diet : Adding more green leafy vegetables in your diet to improve your immune system from the root. You can have broccoli, spinach, nuts, bitter gourd, lemon, methi leaves and any seasonal vegetables and fruits. Health rejuvenating and infection eliminating spices are turmeric, ginger and garlic.
b) Drinking water : Drinking 10 to 12 glasses of water everyday will remove the toxins from the body. In order to deal with cough, cold or any kind of viral infection, drinking warm water shows fast rapid action in removing infections from the root. It is recommended to limit the drinking of caffeine rich beverages, alcoholic beverages and control smoking.
c) Getting adequate sleep: Depending on the dosha elevation, you must focus on sleep. In case of a rise in kapha dosha, you must have a maximum of 7 hours of sleep, whereas a pitta dosha person needs 8 hours and a vata dosha person requires a maximum of 9 hours of sleep to gain control over painful joints and delicate nerves.
d) Waking up early in the morning during sunrise : Getting up during sunrise and soaking in the sun and taking a morning walk will improve your insulin, help your body clock to go with the day and help you to be in an active mood. Act of waking up during sunrise is a highly rejuvenating experience and strengthens your immune system.
e) Yoga : For boosting your immunity, you must join yoga classes. Practicing breathing exercises or pranayam everyday will cleanse your respiratory system and digestive system, reduce unhealthy fats and toxins and balance your doshas.
Hence, with such simple steps mentioned above, you can have a strong immune system to reign life.
